The Safety Harbor City Commission reviewed requests from 11 nonprofit organizations for FY26 outside-agency funding at its Oct. 20 meeting. The city budgeted $160,000 for these grants and requests totaled more than that figure.
Process and staff presentation: Finance staff presented the applicant list, a five-year history of awards and supporting financial information. Commissioners noted the city had previously budgeted less (FY25 actuals were lower) and acknowledged that some applicants increased their requests for FY26, while others maintained prior-year levels.
Public comment: Several nonprofit leaders spoke in favor of continued or expanded support. Representatives described how grant funds support after-school programs, food and housing assistance, arts and cultural programming, volunteer-led housing repairs, and cemetery preservation. Several speakers stressed regional reach, volunteer leverage, and how city awards leverage additional external funding.
Commission discussion and outcome: Commissioners agreed to fund many applicants at last year's levels, award modest increases in select cases, and prioritize maintaining grants that offered demonstrated, local service.
