Miami Lakes workshop advances security updates: ID checks, resident decals and automatic gate arms

At a Oct. 16 Town of Miami Lakes special taxing district workshop, staff outlined multiple security and access changes for gated neighborhoods, including expanded ID checks, a planned rollout of resident vehicle decals and installation of automatic gate‑arm switches.
JP, a town staff member, said ID checks began June 19 at Royal Oaks East and Royal Oaks Section 1 and expanded to Miami Lakes Section 1 on Sept. 20. The checks run from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.; guards ask for photo ID but residents are not required to provide it because these are public roads. "If they say they don't want to provide ID, the guard will simply say, okay, allow entry and take a picture of their tag," JP said.
