Superintendent says FEMA will reimburse roughly $770,000; district pursuing $7M+ project and facility options

Superintendent Dr. Larry Schnabel told the board that FEMA has obligated funds for Category B work related to last August's incident and that the district's insurance offset will reduce the federal payment. He said the district's insurance premium was roughly $1,050,000, FEMA will cover 75% of eligible costs after insurance deduction, and the district expects to receive payment just over $770,000.
Dr. Schnabel said about $256,000 remained after FEMA obligations and insurance, which FEMA treats as a state contribution; the district expects it may receive 12.5% back from the state Department of Homeland Security but is not yet certain. He added that two additional project buckets remain, including repairs for three impacted buildings estimated at just over $7,000,000 and a separate mitigation request that the district is pursuing with its architects and FEMA.
On facilities, Dr. Schnabel said he is still working on a request to purchase or rent a facility; a meeting is being scheduled with bond counsel, legal counsel and fiscal advisors to continue planning. He complimented King and King Architects for their work on the FEMA submissions and thanked staff for summer programming efforts.
The superintendent also announced that Caleb will be the district's student board member beginning Sept. 3; he will participate in floor discussions but will not vote or attend executive sessions.
