Frenship ISD trustees approve construction documents for New North Elementary
Summary
Trustees approved construction documents for the New North Elementary project, which staff described as about 115,000 square feet with a kindergarten area designed to serve as an IBC storm shelter; administration recommended bidding in November and returning to the board as the procurement proceeds.
The Frenship ISD Board of Trustees voted to approve construction documents for the New North Elementary project after Facilities staff presented the plans and timeline.
Derek Cobb described the project package and showed site and floor plans for the roughly 115,000-square-foot facility, noting parking, playgrounds and a kindergarten area that will double as an IBC storm shelter. He said exterior elevations, code review materials and storm-shelter sound-panel details were included in the construction documents. On schedule, Cobb said, "If approval for CNA is here tonight, we're gonna bid this out November and bring it back to you guys for December for June."
Administration recommended approval of the construction documents; Trustee Tyler Haines moved to accept the recommendation and Trustee Chelsea Salazar seconded. The board approved the motion by voice vote.
Why it matters: Approving construction documents allows staff to proceed to procurement and bidding, advancing the schedule toward contractor selection and construction. The project includes storm-shelter features required for safety in the district—s region.
