Meade School Board schedules Oct. 28 special meeting after superintendent presents FY27 deficit corrections

Superintendent Wayne Wormstadt presented district-wide deficit-correction recommendations for fiscal year 2027 at the Meade School District 46-1 board meeting on Oct. 14, 2025, and the board voted to hold a special meeting Tuesday, Oct. 28, at 5:30 p.m. to receive public comment on the proposals.

Wormstadt outlined the need to address a projected FY27 shortfall and fielded board questions; the minutes record that administration will set the special meeting date and location. The board’s motion to schedule the Oct. 28 meeting was moved by Brian Voight and seconded by Tim Amdahl and carried on a recorded vote in the minutes.

The presentation and the scheduled special meeting followed substantial public comment during Open Forum. Multiple community members raised concerns about proposed FY27 deficit recommendations, specifically a proposed relocation of 5th grade from Whitewood Elementary to Sturgis Williams Middle School, combining the Whitewood and Rural principal positions, and the potential closure of Atall and Hereford elementary schools. Those concerns prompted the board to create a public-comment–focused meeting to allow additional community input before taking further action.

Board President Justin Jutting also proposed limiting Open Forum to 90 minutes during the meeting; the minutes record this procedural proposal but do not indicate a board vote on that procedural change.
