Hampstead council appoints new town attorney and donates police SUV; holiday events scheduled

At its meeting, the Hampstead Town Council appointed Tom McCarron as the town attorney, replacing Michelle Ostrander, who served the town for about 30 years.
Mayor Christopher Nevin introduced the nomination of Tom McCarron (also recorded in the minutes once as Thomas McCarran). Council member Dave moved to appoint McCarron and Wayne seconded; the council adopted the appointment by voice vote.
The council also approved donating the Hampstead Police Department’s 2015 Ford Explorer SUV to the Hampstead Volunteer Fire Company after the vehicle met the town’s 10‑year/150,000‑mile authorization rule. The motion to donate was moved and seconded and passed by voice vote.
Council members and staff used the meeting to promote forthcoming holiday activities: the town’s tree lighting will be Friday, Nov. 21 at War Memorial Park (event begins at 6 p.m.; Santa and the mayor arrive by fire truck at 7 p.m.), the farmer’s market Christmas market will run 4–9 p.m. at St. John’s Church with 15 vendors, and the Candy Cane Lane Main Street decorating contest requires displays to be in place by Dec. 15. The council also reminded residents that town offices will be closed Nov. 27–28 for Thanksgiving.
What’s next: the new town attorney will assume duties per town process; the fire company will accept and register the donated vehicle per department procedures; town staff will continue event coordination and public notices.
