Meade School District board approves $7.5 million capital levy, adopts 2025–26 budget and authorizes 2% pay increase

MOTION and approvals: The motion to request the capital levy was made by Megan Snyder and seconded by Sandy Cass; the motion carried. The motion to adopt the 2025–26 budget was made by Sandy Cass and seconded by Terry Koontz; the motion carried. The board approved a 2% base salary increase for the superintendent and business manager in a motion by Sandy Cass, seconded by Brian Voight; the motion carried. The board also approved guidelines for FMLA leave expectations in a motion by Sandy Cass, seconded by Terry Koontz; that motion carried.
Employee handbooks and conflicts: The board accepted the 2025–26 employee handbooks and staff agreements in a motion by Megan Snyder, seconded by Terry Koontz. The minutes record three abstentions 'with conflict' on that vote: Sandy Cass (Abstain with Conflict), Justin Jutting (Abstain with Conflict) and Brian Voight (Abstain with Conflict). The remaining members—Terry Koontz, Aaron Odegaard, Megan Snyder and Lee Spring—voted yea.
Personnel and contract amendments: Reported personnel actions for the coming school year included the certificated hire of Nicholas Hansen as a teacher at Sturgis Brown High School at an annual contract of $58,628.00, and the hire of Krista Geuke as an administrative assistant in the business office at $22.00 per hour. Two support-staff contract amendments were recorded promoting Christian Kotab to network administrator at an annual salary of $71,000.00 and James Boelter to network administrator at $65,000.00 (their prior hourly rates were listed in the personnel section of the minutes).
Financial summary: Business-manager-reported fund balances and accrued items included a General Fund balance cited at $1,086,491.60, a Special Education Fund balance at $281,507.39, and a combined total of $1,367,998.99. An itemized accrued claims list for June 30, 2025 was read into the record covering vendor payments, repairs, travel, tuition and other district expenditures.
