Meade School Board recognizes state champions, poetry award and retiring debate coach

At the March 10 meeting the Meade School District 46-1 Board of Education set aside time for recognitions.
The board celebrated the Sturgis Brown High School Speech & Debate Team for winning the State Championship at the Brookings tournament and noted Coach Eric Johnson will retire from coaching debate at the end of the school year. The board also congratulated the Scooper Wrestling Team on winning the State Duals (Regional 4A) and recognized individual state champions Tyler Baldwin and Kelson Dirk.
In academics and arts, SBHS freshman Bella Willuweit received a poetry award from the South Dakota State Poetry Society presented by Jean Helmer; SBHS English teacher Shawntera Kennedy was also recognized.
These recognitions were presented without objection and included gratitude for student achievement and staff contributions. No formal actions or expenditures tied to the recognitions were recorded in the meeting minutes.
