Grantsville officials on Nov. 12 certified the results of the 2025 general election and approved the county-provided canvass report, city staff said.
During a special Board of Canvassers session at Grantsville City Offices (and via Zoom), city staff read the standardized Tooele County canvass statistics dated Nov. 4, 2025. The report listed a 32.5% voter turnout countywide and 36,625 active voters. Staff said 11,903 total ballots were counted: 11,509 mail ballots, 40 early in-person ballots, 305 in-person election-day ballots, 30 disability ballots returned electronically, and 14 provisional ballots counted. The vote-history reconciliation showed a single discrepancy explained as a primary ballot returned in a general-election envelope, staff reported.
"Tracy Shaw has certified that this information is true and accurate," staff said during the reading of the report.
City staff announced the certified winners: Heidi Hammond for mayor, and Jake Thomas and Derek Dalton for city council seats. Staff said the certification paperwork will be circulated via DocuSign for signatures.
A council member moved to approve the canvass "as presented," a motion that was seconded and carried on a voice vote. Councilman Thomas was recorded saying "Aye" during the roll call; the presiding official stated, "Motion carries." The record shows the board approved the canvass that same evening.
The meeting included a detailed readout of provisional and by-mail ballot handling: 16 provisional ballots were issued with 14 counted and two not counted (one residency issue, one incomplete form), 60 curable by-mail challenges were sent cure notices, and 29 curable ballots were not cured and therefore rejected. Staff also reported 23 envelopes with signatures that did not match the voter signature and six unsigned envelopes.
The board did not take any further actions related to contesting or reopening ballots during the special meeting; the certification was approved and staff will finalize signatures on the canvass documentation.
The special meeting adjourned after the canvass and a short additional agenda item.
