Hyde Park City Council voted on Nov. 12 to adopt a fee schedule amendment that passes Waste Management’s increased solid‑waste charges through to residents and itemizes a $1.50 administrative fee for the utility clerk.
Donna, a city staff member, explained the redlined fee packet shows current charges and the proposed changes. "It is just what Waste Management is charging us," she said, and the $1.50 line was added to increase transparency rather than hide the cost inside another utility fee.
Council members asked how residents will be notified; Donna said the change will be published in the city newsletter and shown on utility bills. The council approved the resolution by voice vote; the motion carried 5–0.
Staff noted the alternative would be to cover the increase from other budget lines, which city staff said are not available without cuts elsewhere. The council directed staff to notify residents and update billing materials.
