Pipestone County approves remount of ambulance onto available 2024 Chevy chassis

Pipestone County commissioners voted Nov. 12 to approve remounting a 2011 ambulance box onto an available 2024 Chevy G4500 chassis to speed up replacement of aging emergency equipment.
Emergency Services Director Casey Sievers told the board the manufacturer had a chassis come open in its production line, allowing the county to move forward weeks or months earlier than the previously anticipated 2026 schedule. "We can get it in quite literally this week and with potential for it to be done in January," Sievers said, noting the county expects a discount because the chassis is a 2024 model rather than a later year.
The board considered cost context in the presentation: the chassis estimate on the bid sheet had been about $50,000, and staff said the 2024 chassis will be less than that estimate but did not provide a final dollar figure at the meeting. Commissioners moved and seconded a motion to approve the remount onto the 2024 Chevy chassis; the motion carried by voice vote.
The county will remount the ambulance now and continue its planned replacement rotation — staff said the unit will be scheduled for full replacement at the end of its remount lifecycle. The board did not set a separate appropriation at the meeting; the motion authorized the purchase as presented.
