Starr County Commissioners OK permits, interlocal agreements, election canvass and budget amendments

At its regular session, the Starr County Commissioners Court approved a series of routine but substantive items ranging from infrastructure permits to budget amendments.
Permits: The court approved three right-of-way actions (items 8–10) authorizing trenching or boring to bring fiber to parts of Fuentes, Alvarez and Cano roads. County staff and the petitioner said trenching would be limited to the right-of-way and that any boring under newly paved sections would be performed beneath the road surface; state right-of-way approvals had already been obtained where required.
Elections: Elections staff presented the canvass for the November 4 constitutional amendment election, reporting 704 votes across 17 amendments and certifying the tally sheets matched returns. The court approved the canvass.
Interlocal and fire services: The court approved an interlocal agreement with La Casita Fire Department and South Texas College and a volunteer service and training reimbursement agreement to support La Casita Volunteer Fire Department training and reimbursement costs.
Operation Lone Star/accounting: The court authorized opening a bank account to receive Operation Lone Star funds and approved a short seed loan from the general fund to open new accounts.
Budget and personnel: The court approved budget amendments (items 20–32), budget corrections (33–34) and adopted the 2025–26 order of salaries after executive-session review. The court also approved a donation to the fire department and noted an informational item that required no action.
All listed motions were carried by voice vote; where the court recessed for executive session earlier in the meeting, items discussed in executive session were returned to the open meeting and approved as announced by the judge.
