Rockville hears fire district update: call volumes near 600 districtwide; hydrant tests ongoing

The council heard a report from the American Valley Fire Special Service District on Nov. 12. Chief Ames said Rockville had six calls last month, Springdale 22 and Zion 13, and that the district handled just under 600 calls overall in the month.
Chief Ames told the council the district recently hired a wildland battalion chief, Dave Harmon, who "will be heavily involved" with local wildland incidents. On hydrant testing, the chief said crews were conducting pressure/static checks and that, as of his last check, eight hydrants remained to be tested. A council member noted the district had not performed flow testing and said, "They didn't flow test them. They just pressure test them."
Chief Ames agreed to try to extract static-pressure readings and location details from the district system and provide that information to the town if available. The council asked for a written report on hydrant test results and locations once the district's records can be compiled.
