Laredo board names Esther Filova chair of Women’s Hall of Fame committee, sets rules and schedule

The meeting’s chair appointed Esther Filova as chair of the Women’s Hall of Fame event committee and named Laura (last name not given) as vice chair. "At this point, I would like to appoint Esther Filova as the chair for the event and the vice chair, Laura, for the event," the chair said. Esther answered "Thank you," and the chair encouraged the new leaders to choose committee members and report back.
Board members outlined the nominations process and event logistics. A nominating committee will apply clearly stated criteria this year with no exceptions; board members may not nominate directly but may recommend individuals to apply. The group agreed not to announce honorees during the recorded meeting to avoid premature public disclosure; instead the board plans a media event, press release and a small reception to formally present honorees.
The chair said the 2025–26 action plan will be presented to the city council on Dec. 1 for approval and asked members to refrain from publicizing any action-plan items until the council acts. The board scheduled its next meeting for Tuesday, Dec. 9 at 5:30 p.m. at the public library.
Members also took a moment to thank outgoing officer Sandra for her leadership and urged respect and teamwork as the committee begins its work.
