The Haslet Parks and Recreation Board voted to recommend City Council support for two Economic Development Corporation (EDC) projects: a concrete parking lot at Nance Field and replacement of the Community Park playground. Both recommendations followed discussion about funding and EDC involvement.
Chair Sarah explained the EDC/HCEDC had proposed using its portion of city tax funds for infrastructure projects and told the board the EDC was willing to fund paving at Nance Field. "So as a park board, if we could just discuss that...I think it's a fine idea to have it paved," she said. Katrina noted EDC initially planned asphalt but discussions remain ongoing.
On the playground replacement, members discussed forming a subcommittee to work with EDC and evaluate new equipment and fall zones. Board members emphasized the need to avoid design features that create maintenance headaches; public-works input was encouraged. The board moved to recommend council proceed with EDC’s recommendation for a playground replacement and to form a subcommittee (three or fewer board members) to work with EDC on selection and specifications.
Motions to recommend both projects to City Council passed with board support. The board flagged that City Council and EDC retain final authority over spending and could select an alternate option if desired. The board will coordinate with EDC and City staff to prepare recommendations and a presentation packet for council consideration.
