The Town of Cheektowaga planning board approved an amendment to a multifamily housing project at 6386 Transit Road to add parking and a gazebo, forwarding the item to the Environmental Advisory Committee for review.

Joe Young of Young Development said the amendment would add 42 parking stalls to the front of the property and a stick‑built gazebo with grill areas near the walking trail. He explained the change responded to occupancy and turnover pressures after phases 1 and 2 received certificates of occupancy.

Board members raised concerns about increased impervious area and stormwater. Young said grading and the existing on‑site stormwater system will remain unchanged and that the system is sized to handle the additional runoff. Staff confirmed the property is already within the 100‑foot wetland buffer for the project and that the original approvals included a negative declaration in the environmental review for the initial plan; the board agreed to approve the amendment contingent on EAC review and any issues that committee raises.

What’s next: the applicant will supply the EAC with the additional details and the board will revisit the item if EAC identifies problems or if ZBA action is required.
