Aiden Perry foundation donates life rings to Pompano parks to improve water safety

City commissioners accepted a donation of 10 life rings from the Aiden Perry Good Samaritan Scholarship Fund on Nov. 13 to be installed across Pompano Beach parks and water‑front locations.
Scott Moore of Parks & Recreation outlined the donation and said staff had identified 12 park locations — mostly along the Intracoastal Waterway — and that water‑taxi landing points will receive rings. Sarah Perry, founder of the Aiden Perry Hero Life Ring Initiative and mother of Aiden Spencer Perry, told the commission her son died trying to help a motorist trapped in a vehicle that went into a lake and that the life‑ring program was created to provide an affordable rescue tool in riparian public spaces. “By having one of these life rings available, lives will be saved,” she said.
Perry said the foundation has donated more than 600 rings across Broward, Palm Beach and Miami‑Dade counties and that her group can provide additional rings and signs at cost to HOAs and other entities. Staff said an official unveiling and demonstration of the first installation is planned for Wahoo Bay in December.
Commissioners praised the donation and discussed possible additional citywide sites, including bridges and canal access points. The measure passed unanimously.
Next steps: staff will schedule an unveiling and training demonstration in December and follow up on coordination with HOAs and private communities that may want to adopt rings at cost.
