Summary
The commission authorized closing the Safe Streets for All planning grant and was reminded the RDC spending plan and overlapping taxing unit notices are due in December; the implementation grant remains under review amid a federal funding pause.
The Burns Harbor Redevelopment Commission approved an amendment to close out the Safe Streets for All planning grant and discussed next steps for implementation and reporting. Staff said the amendment is a formality to finalize the planning grant work and to complete required signatures to close the grant on the town’s side.
Tina (staff) told the commission the planning grant closeout covers completed contract work and an approved action plan on file. She also said the town is still awaiting a decision from the state transportation department on an implementation grant submitted last June; progress on that application has stalled while a federal shutdown delays action at the state and federal level.
Commissioners thanked Jack and the Safe Streets committee for the committee’s work and discussed follow-up items, including additional meetings to address survey results, potential streetlight and signage projects, and how to prioritize implementation steps in 2026. Tina said she will work with the clerk-treasurer’s office on the RDC spending plan required by the state and expects to place the updated plan on the December agenda.
At the meeting staff also noted Baker Tilly is completing a TIF analysis with an updated report expected in the coming week. No new implementation grant money was awarded at the meeting; the commission approved the closeout paperwork and authorized signatures where required.
