Councilmembers suggested smaller, distributed activities (bell tower decorations, programming at the park, and indoor venues) that could complement the fairgrounds' fireworks display rather than closing Main Street. One public commenter urged restoring historical traditions such as bell-ringing.
Council asked staff to reach out to merchant groups and community organizations, to identify potential leads, and to return with a status update (suggested: second meeting in January) on planning, costs and the required level of city support. No appropriation or formal commitment to lead the event was made at the Nov. 12 meeting.
