Planning Commission recommends renaming Thiebaud Trail to Orchard Park Drive, limits where new name begins

The City of North Ridgeville Planning Commission on Nov. 12 recommended that City Council approve Ordinance 2025‑145 to rename Thiebaud Trail as Orchard Park Drive, with limits on where the new name would begin.
Planning and Development Director Lieber told the commission the petition came from the Ridgeville Farms developer, who asked for a change because the existing name is frequently misspelled or mispronounced. Lieber said the administration and city engineer recommend that the Orchard Park Drive name begin at the bend where the private street enters the development and that existing homes on the entrance drive retain their Avon Belden addresses to avoid confusing deliveries and emergency response.
Assistant Law Director Morin noted city policy generally favors a single street name along its entire length and asked commissioners to confirm the feature qualifies as a street rather than an alley before approving a partial name change.
During public comment, resident Holly Slank (36259 Center Ridge) said homeowners on the section currently addressed via Route 83 were concerned about having to change trusts, mortgages and notify the U.S. Postal Service if the name change started at Route 83. Mallory Mazrick, representing the landowner and developer for Ridgeville Farms, said the current plan keeps existing homes listed with Avon Belden addresses and places the Orchard Park Drive signage starting at the bend into the development.
After discussion, the chair moved and a commissioner seconded a recommendation that City Council approve the name change with limits so the private drive’s existing addresses remain Avon Belden and the Orchard Park Drive name begins at the bend; the motion carried unanimously.
What’s next: The Planning Commission’s recommendation will be included in the council packet for Ordinance 2025‑145; council may accept, modify or reject the recommendation.
