The Town of Norwood Conservation Commission on Nov. 5 discussed and signaled support for the town’s potential acquisition of Koffsky Farm — a >20-acre parcel — and two adjoining parcels, recommending letters of support for the special-town-meeting warrant articles and encouraging conservation protections.
Conservation staff explained the three parcels would be acquired and held as a single open-space block; the purchase is listed on the upcoming special town meeting warrant. "Koffsky Farm... it's over 20 acres," staff said, noting the property includes fields, woods, wetlands, a house and outbuildings and lies adjacent to existing open space and trail corridors. The house where Mrs. Koffsky lives would not be included in the purchase.
Commissioners broadly praised the opportunity, characterizing it as a rare chance to preserve largely undeveloped land and expand the town trail network. Several members suggested that the commission or a trails representative serve on any steering committee that will determine future uses, and emphasized strong wording in support letters to urge preservation as open space rather than development.
What’s next: The Trails Committee and ConCom will finalize and share draft support letters for the town meeting warrant. Commissioners asked staff to coordinate with other town groups to ensure access, parking and trail considerations are addressed during subsequent planning.
