Residents press Saratoga Springs for speed mitigation on Lariat Boulevard

Multiple residents who live along Lariat Boulevard and surrounding streets took the public-comment period at the Nov. 13 Planning Commission meeting to press for traffic-calming measures.
Matt Harris, who said he lives at 2001 S. Thoroughbred Drive, told commissioners he knocked on roughly 60 doors and that "our quiet neighborhood" has "turned into what feels like a freeway at times." Other speakers described repeated high-speed passing, a near T‑bone, motorcycles and go-kart racing and routine dangers for children walking or waiting at bus stops. Residents asked for physical calming measures such as speed cushions, more stop signs and the possibility of a bypass route for feeder traffic.
Commissioners and staff responded by pointing residents to the traffic-calming consultant report included in the meeting packet and said engineering had already received emails from residents. Staff said they would forward comments to the appropriate engineering divisions and inform the city manager. Commissioner Hill noted the commission had a traffic-calming item on the agenda later in the meeting and encouraged residents to stay for details.
What’s next: Staff will pass resident input to engineering for study and follow-up. The traffic-calming report is available on the city website for residents who could not remain for the full meeting.
