Commission approves motion to advance coed adult soccer pilot; greenlights two instructor proposals

Adult soccer: Staff recommended a beginner to low‑intermediate coed 9v9 adult soccer league (16/18 and up), scheduled August–October with a minimum of four and maximum of six teams to start, two referees per game and an $850 per‑team registration fee. Commissioners raised concerns about field wear at Hogan Park and suggested shifting some play to Brentwood Park or weekday slots to reduce turf strain. Commissioner (mover) proposed proceeding with the format and a fee‑analysis to consider raising the fee slightly to fund equipment and goals; the motion passed by voice vote.

Planting Seeds: Staff presented Planting Seeds Academic Solutions’ summer offering — a "junior crime scene detective" one‑hour Monday course for ages 7–12 with a suggested fee of $175, minimum enrollment 10 and maximum 50. Staff said the program would be run by a local instructor to be fingerprinted and screened; details were not fully secured. Commissioners asked that the program’s local instructor (referenced as Chris Jones) return to give a formal presentation; a motion requesting that action passed.

Zumbini (Melanie Snelling): The commission reviewed a local proposal from Melanie Snelling for Zumbini (parent/child movement class for ages 0–5, six‑week session, suggested fee $120). Commissioners moved, seconded and approved the contract‑instructor submission for Zumbini by voice vote.
