Manteno trustees pick pavilion site, debate steel roof upcharge and accessibility details

The Property & Recreation committee reviewed design renderings from Carlisle Architectural Group and recommended siting the pavilion on the south side of the park aligned with the sidewalk to the splash pad to increase seating, shade and sight lines.
Trustees discussed removing a fence to increase usable turf, planting additional trees for shade, adding wind-sail shade over play areas, and replacing warped picnic-table boards with more durable seating. Jim Hanley (public works) and other staff were asked to obtain pricing for utility relocation, shade sails and picnic seating.
The board also discussed the existing merry-go-round in the park. Staff said the current unit does not function well and suggested either pricing a replacement or welding it to convert into a fixed climbing structure. On the roof material, staff reported a manufacturer quoted an upcharge of $7,000 to replace the originally ordered shingled roof with a steel roof. Trustees generally favored a steel roof for longevity and agreed to place the increased-cost item on the next Monday agenda for a formal vote after receiving final pricing and details.
