Christian County presents 2026 proposed budget; final appropriation expected in January

Christian County staff presented the proposed 2026 budget to the commission on Nov. 13, meeting the statutory requirement to lay out the proposed budget on or before Nov. 15 and make it available for at least 10 days.
Budget staff (referred to in the meeting as Miss Amy) said there were "no fund structures changed" and that the process will continue with department and elected-official meetings to review numbers before the commission approves the final appropriation in January. When asked for a date, staff identified Jan. 9 for final appropriation action.
The budget documents will be posted publicly and left on the commission table for the required 10-day review period. "It was presented on time," budget staff told the commission; no formal vote was required at this meeting. Commissioners reminded staff that the public and office holders can examine the details and schedule follow-up meetings as needed before the appropriation vote.
The commission also discussed holiday scheduling and coordination with the presiding judge so that county closures and court schedules align; commissioners agreed to follow up with Judge Johnson and to meet at 8 a.m. at the next commission meeting to accommodate the judge's calendar.
No new revenue or expenditure amounts were introduced in the presentation; staff said they will continue meeting with department heads and elected officials ahead of the appropriation vote in January.
