Staff then presented draft ordinance language intended to license operators of short-term rentals so the village has owner contact information when police respond to complaints. Under the draft language discussed, an operator would pay a single annual license fee (staff cited $25 in examples) regardless of number of properties managed.
Trustees discussed scope and edge cases, asking whether corporate housing or group homes would fall under the rule and whether the license would capture individual renters (staff said it would register the operator, not each occupant). No vote was taken; trustees insisted on clarifying that tax decisions are separate from this licensing discussion and asked staff to refine the language.
