FAIRFAX, Va. — The Fairfax County School Board opened a public hearing Nov. 13 to solicit community input on the name for a new high school in the western portion of the county but heard no in-person testimony because no members of the public had registered to speak.
“On behalf of the school board, I would like to thank you for sharing your comments with us,” said the presiding official, identified in the transcript only as the Board Chair (unnamed in transcript). The chair described the site as “an expansive 32.7 acre site” that “features 355,000 square feet of modern learning spaces including large multipurpose halls, libraries, fine arts facilities and athletic areas.”
The board announced that the process to determine the school’s academic programming is ongoing and that members planned to vote on programming at their regular meeting that night. The chair said the naming process remains open for public input and provided ways to submit comments electronically: the hearing was broadcast on Channel 99, streamed on YouTube and at FCPS’s livestream page, and the board invited emailed testimony to communityparticipation@fcps.edu.
Clerk (unnamed in transcript) told the board, “We do not have anybody who has signed up for one of the five registered slots,” indicating no live public commenters at this session. With no speakers scheduled, the chair said the board would move on to its regular meeting and reminded the public of upcoming steps in the naming process: a first final public hearing on Dec. 18, 2025, and a board vote on Feb. 12, 2026.
The public hearing was adjourned at 7:08 p.m. The board asked participants to stay for a short pause to switch over to the regular meeting.
What to watch next: the board’s advertised Dec. 18, 2025 final hearing on the name and the Feb. 12, 2026 scheduled vote. Members of the public who wish to submit written comments can send them to communityparticipation@fcps.edu or use the FCPS livestream and meeting pages for updates.
