Trenton — City Council approved a slate of contracts and renewals Monday night, moving forward with bond projects, equipment renewals and late construction items that officials said are needed for ongoing municipal operations.
Among the largest approvals, the council accepted a low bid from North American Construction Enterprises to rebuild the Veterans Memorial Library entrance for $235,000 with a 10% contingency. The council also approved a rebuild of the City Hall elevator (a TKE quote of $171,983.82 plus 10% contingency) after staff said a full replacement would cost upwards of $1 million.
City Administrator Dean Creech presented a Michigan Municipal League insurance renewal for liability and property pool coverage that rose from roughly $319,000 to $350,109 this year; Creech attributed the increase largely to payroll growth and adding eight vehicles to the city's fleet. The council authorized that renewal.
Other approved items included a Tyler Technologies cloud law‑enforcement software renewal for Trenton’s share ($29,560.51), library interior/exterior camera installation (cost not to exceed $23,837), Cornerstone Fence's low bid for the Kennedy Recreation Center fencing project ($14,708), and an interfund transfer of $40,032 from the General Fund to the Kennedy Recreation Fund to address short‑term liabilities.
City staff brought two late items for immediate approval: a temporary parking and handicap‑access contract and an associated fire‑hydrant installation connected to the police station project. Administrator Creech requested authorization to execute an additional contract with Campo Brothers for $144,011 to complete the temporary parking work and listed a separate hydrant cost of $33,885; the council approved the late contracts.
All votes on these items were recorded as approved at the meeting. City staff said projects will follow standard contracting and bonding requirements and that procurement and insurance conditions will be met.
