The Solid Waste Authority selected an internal candidate with decades of solid-waste experience to replace outgoing leadership; the board voted unanimously to hire the candidate after a brief internal interview and discussion of qualifications.
The Solid Waste Authority (SWA) unanimously approved hiring an internal candidate as its next executive director after interviewing the applicant and receiving supporting comments from board members.
The candidate introduced himself and summarized his qualifications, saying he has a bachelor's and master's in engineering, an MBA, is a licensed professional engineer and board certified in the solid waste specialty, and has roughly 32 years of experience with about 25 years on authority projects. "I know the local issues, solid waste issues," he said, adding that he had managed major projects including refuse-to-energy facility work and construction oversight and that he would bring continuity to ongoing initiatives.
Commissioner Weiss and others praised the candidate's experience and noted support from authority frontline staff. Commissioner Weiss said the candidate’s background and local operational knowledge make him well suited to lead the authority through upcoming projects. The board voted to receive and file required documentation and then to hire the candidate; the motion carried 6–0.
Outgoing chair/executive director Pilowitz thanked staff and praised in-house communications and operational work, and commissioners offered thanks and best wishes. The board discussed timing for returning the new executive director's contract and indicated a December meeting as a possible date for final contract matters.
