Committee recommends package adding stop signs at several intersections after traffic study review

The Legislative Matters Committee voted Nov. 10 to send a package of stop-sign ordinances to the full City Council with a positive recommendation after staff cited a contracted traffic study identifying several intersections that meet stop-warrant criteria.
Councilor Jarrett summarized the findings for Bedford Terrace, noting the intersection angle and turning area prompted engineering advice that adding a stop would reduce liability and improve safety. Staff said the package also includes corrections where a stop sign exists in practice on one side but not in the code (Corticelli Street) and always-stop recommendations at Audubon/Mulberry/River Roads and Blackberry Lane/Prospect Avenue.
Councilor Rachel said most Ward residents supported the additional signs and asked staff to share any relevant safety-assessment excerpts with residents. Councilor Jarrett and other councilors encouraged posting traffic studies online so interested residents can review the data and rationale.
The committee approved the package (items 25-3-35 and 25-3-36) and will forward the ordinances to the full council. Staff said additional intersection geometry improvements are planned in some locations to shorten crossing distances and slow turning speeds; DPW will coordinate construction or painting needs as appropriate.
