Jorge Perez, assistant director of public works, said the shell will house 14 water department employees and serve as additional storage and fabrication/shop area. Staff said the overall construction budget for the project is $380,000; the $66,365 figure presented reflects the metal shell only. The department solicited proposals from three fabricators but received a single responsive proposal from Bunker Steel and requested a waiver of formal purchasing procedures to purchase the shell and then bid the construction portion separately.
A council motion to purchase the PMB from Bunker Steel and waive formal purchasing procedures passed by voice vote. Staff will proceed with the procurement of the shell and later solicit construction bids for installation and finishing work.
