The West Fargo Public Library Board voted Nov. 13 to accept a city HR recommendation to regrade the marketing and communications specialist position from grade 12 to grade 13 and to approve associated back pay as presented in the staff memo.
Library Director Jenna summarized the background: a 2024 salary survey prompted job-description updates and a regrade request. "The only position though that did indicate a recommendation to change a grade was our marketing and communication specialist," Jenna said, adding that numbers for potential back pay were included in the memo so the board would know what it would be approving.
Board members asked about whether the employee was on payroll during the July 2024 citywide reclassification; staff confirmed the position had been on payroll with a previous grade but subsequent job-description updates prompted the regrade request. Jenna told the board current-year budget has sufficient funds because of vacancies and that the 2026 budget includes room to accommodate the ongoing increase.
A board member (S2) moved to approve the back pay and the grade increase going forward; the motion was seconded and carried. The board did not record separate opposing votes. The regrade will be implemented by city HR and incorporated into payroll going forward; staff said any back-pay numbers in the memo were provided for the board's information at approval time.
