Meade School District approves $225,659 social studies curriculum, amends budget and greenlights capital projects

At its Feb. 10 meeting the Meade School District 46-1 Board approved a $225,659.23 social studies curriculum for grades 5–12, amended the general fund to pay $35,816 to Studer Education, and authorized negotiations for FY26 capital outlay projects including pursuing a sponsorship for turf at Woodle Field.
The Meade School District 46-1 Board on Feb. 10 approved multiple motions that update the district’s curriculum, budget and capital priorities.
The board voted to approve a new social studies curriculum for grades 5–12 at $225,659.23 with a six-year contract. Board member Brian Voight moved the purchase; Trustee Thomas Schneller seconded the motion, which carried. The board also approved an amendment to the general fund budget to add $35,816 for Studer Education professional services; the motion was made by Sandy Cass and seconded by Megan Snyder.
Separately, the board authorized staff to negotiate and enter service agreements for FY26 capital outlay projects within the FY26 budget parameters. As part of that decision the board later voted to pursue sponsorship opportunities and to engage a Mammoth contract for turf at Woodle Field, with a final contract to be presented to the board in Fall 2025; the turf motion was moved by Sandy Cass and seconded by Terry Koontz.
Other board actions taken at the meeting included: • Adopting the IRS mileage reimbursement rate increase to $0.70 per mile for 2025 (motion by Koontz, seconded by Odegaard). • Approving a combined school board election for June 2025 and entering into an agreement with the Meade County Auditor for electronic ballot machine rental (motion by Snyder, seconded by Schneller). • Authorizing the publication of Notice of Vacancies in the newspaper on Feb. 19 and Feb. 26 (Koontz/Odegaard). • Allowing SBHS Rodeo Club temporary water access at SBHS East Campus during rodeo season (Cass/Schneller). • Amending the 2025–26 rural school calendar to make Friday, March 13, 2026, a regular school day (Snyder/Koontz). • Scheduling a special board meeting for Feb. 24, 2025, to discuss personnel and student-related matters under SDCL (Cass/Voight). • Approving an MOU for hiring and transfer bonuses for special services teachers and licensed staff (Koontz/Odegaard). • Approving the meeting agenda and consent agenda at the start of the session (Snyder/Cass; Koontz/Odegaard).
