Pullman board directs DEIB task force to develop family-advocacy networks

Amanda, a board member who presented the task-force review, said the group — made up of Pullman High School students, staff, an administrator, parents and community members — completed an annual review and gathered robust stakeholder feedback. "We had 470 responses, of which 83% were from students," she said, citing the survey turnout as evidence of engagement.
The task force recommended moving from review to action and requested board approval to continue its work without losing momentum. The board first voted to move the DEIB review to an action item, then approved the specific new charge by voice vote.
Board discussion emphasized using the task force to build family resource and advocacy networks that could support families through IEP meetings, guardianship conversations and other special-education or DEIB-related needs. The task force also plans to coordinate with community partners and disability-awareness stakeholders that have already engaged in district events.
What happens next: the task force will meet before the next board meeting to develop concrete next steps for the family-advocacy workstream and identify stakeholders to involve in planning and outreach.
