McLennan County Court approves canvass of Nov. 4 Texas constitutional special election

The McLennan County Court voted Thursday to approve the canvass of results from the Nov. 4, 2025 Texas constitutional special election, a step county officials said is required to forward the county’s returns to the Texas Secretary of State.

Jerry Doe Smith, an elections staff member, told the court the ballot board had met and county staff had finished counting and processing ballots. “We’ve had our ballot board meet. We had everything processed, and, we just need y’all to approve the results for the Texas constitutional amendment for McLennan County,” he said.

The Presiding official asked for a motion to approve the canvass of the Nov. 4 election. A motion and a second were made; the court conducted a voice vote with members saying “aye,” and the Presiding official announced the motion passed. The meeting record does not include a roll-call tally or the names of the members who moved and seconded the motion.

Smith said the next step was administrative: he would take the approved results to the secretary of state’s office for filing. There were no public comments during the meeting.

The court opened the meeting at 9 a.m., reviewed proof of posting for the agenda (posted Nov. 4, 2025 at 3:55 p.m.), observed a moment of silence and the pledges, and then handled the canvass item before adjourning.
