The New Canaan Town Council announced during its Nov. 12 organizational meeting that long-serving volunteer Jim Lischer passed away that afternoon.
Councilors described Lischer's many years of service to health and human services programs and his leadership on the Commission on Aging. A speaker said Lischer worked to make New Canaan an "optimal senior community" and that he had applied to the Charter Review Commission. Another councilor with a long acquaintance with Lischer said he and Eleanor Lischer had been active in Saint Mark's Episcopal Church for nearly 30 years and praised Jim as "a humble public servant" who put community needs first.
Council members offered condolences to Lischer's family and the community. The announcement prompted several personal recollections; the meeting then moved to a motion to adjourn.
