New Canaan council names temporary secretary and elects leadership at organizational meeting

Councilors conducted roll call and confirmed a quorum before moving through nominations for chairman, vice chairman and secretary. Council member Mike Morrow was elected chairman; Hillary Ormond was elected vice chairman. Members offered congratulations to the successful nominees after the votes.
A councilor raised a procedural question about whether the council's executive committee constitutes a subcommittee subject to the Freedom of Information Act given recent changes in the council's party balance. Members said the town's lawyers should be consulted to clarify FOIA obligations and recommended moving forward with the votes while the legal question is researched.
