Council voted to approve PA American Water’s estimate of $139,549.37 to install 560 feet of 8‑inch ductile iron water main and a fire hydrant assembly to serve the borough’s new Public Works building. Council discussed a self‑build alternative (Engineer/Manager characterized an approximate $70,000 upfront cost but with recurring vault rental that made the PA American option preferable); the motion to approve the PA American Water contract passed.
The council also awarded the 2025 brick street repair project to Celente (transcript spelled both “Cilente” and “Celente”) Construction Company at the low bid of $115,190, above the $100,000 budget for the scope. Manager Price said the road fund and reserves cover the difference; two council members opposed the award but the motion passed.
Engineer updates included tree removals tied to sewer work: three large sycamores impacted by the Broadhead project will be repurposed with Urban Tree Pittsburgh and Landforce; contractor costs to repurpose were reported near $2,500, which staff said is within the Shade Tree Commission budget.
What happens next: crews will continue daily work on the sewer separation; staff will coordinate hydrant installation and final paving with PA American Water and contractor schedules. The brick repairs will proceed under the awarded contract with reserve funding covering the overage.
