Summary
Juliana Perez sought a letter of support from the committee for a Massachusetts Cultural Council local grant to research and showcase Southborough music; the committee agreed to draft, review and send a letter and voted unanimously to authorize sending a letter of support.
Juliana Perez, a professional musician and recent law graduate, asked the Town of Southborough Tricentennial Committee on Nov. 12 for a letter of support required as part of the Massachusetts Cultural Council's local grant application.
Perez said the work would be a musicology-type research project to locate historically significant local music in private collections and archives, assemble a small program of seven to 12 works, and present a test concert (likely at the public library) in advance of any tricentennial showcase. "They want a letter from this committee to kind of support the search for the music and the... concert," Perez told the group, and she noted the application deadline required a letter before Nov. 18.
Committee members discussed timing and whether the grant would compete with tricentennial-allocated funds; Perez said the application is for the current local grant cycle and would not draw on the committee's 2027 allocations. The committee agreed the proposal aligns with the tricentennial's historical aims and would be appropriate to support.
The committee asked Perez to draft the letter and circulate it to Patty and other committee members for review; Patty or the vice chair agreed to sign the letter if the committee's pre-authorized draft matched the committee's discussion. A motion to send a committee letter supporting Perez's Massachusetts Cultural Council local grant application was made, seconded and carried by voice vote (recorded as 5–0).
Next steps: Perez and the designated committee members will finalize the letter and send it to the chair for signature and submission before the Nov. 18 deadline.
