Jolene, chair of Friends of Southborough Recreation, told the Recreation Commission on Nov. 6 that the group had recorded 365 registrations so far for the annual Gobble Wobble and has secured 25 sponsors. "We're up to 365 right now," she said. "Our goal is a thousand again this year."
Organizers reported that signage and volunteer food have been purchased, the registration form is live, and many shirts have already been ordered. Jolene asked commission members and the community for help recruiting day-of volunteers, noting last year's weather had reduced turnout despite a near-1,000 goal.
Commissioners praised the volunteers and the Friends group for supporting large town events such as Summer Nights and said they would help promote registration through rec-program channels. Travis, Recreation staff, said the department will circulate a QR code and leverage program mailing lists to broaden outreach.
Friends of Southborough Recreation also said it shares publicity across neighboring running clubs and has had inquiries from nonresidents planning to travel in for the race, underscoring the event's regional draw. The commission encouraged Friends to continue volunteer recruiting and agreed to support outreach opportunities at upcoming events such as Summer Nights and the Gobble Wobble.
