Granite Falls School Board honors departing members and recognizes student award winners

The Granite Falls School Board combined its regular meeting with a ‘Success in Education Night’ on Nov. 12, pausing routine business to honor three departing board members and present student and staff awards across the district.
Director Ladoux opened the evening by thanking the departing members and moving a motion to excuse Director Goughner from the meeting; the motion was seconded and approved by voice vote. Superintendent Dr. Dana Giesland read a formal recognition of each departing director and thanked them for their service "to the students, staff, and families of the Granite Falls School District." Dr. Giesland said their work "has touched every corner of our district from preschool through twelfth grade."
One departing director, reflecting on a decision to leave the board, said, "Granite Falls School District is the reason I'm leaving," explaining that the district inspired a decision to pursue teaching. Board members exchanged personal reflections about mentorship, advocacy and the board's recent adoption of a district-wide curriculum after decades without a common K–12 sequence.
The board then presented its "Success in Education" awards. Assistant Principal Dave Bangee introduced four Granite Falls High School recipients, highlighting academic achievement and extracurricular contributions for honorees including Jackson Mizell and Ruby Smith. Crossroads, the middle school, and elementary principals presented winners from their buildings; students were recognized for academics, leadership and community contributions.
Superintendent Giesland also announced four "Bridge Builder" staff awards to employees praised for counseling, classroom support and family outreach. Dr. Giesland described the awardees as staff who "build bridges between home and school" and singled out staff members whose work supports students’ academic and social needs.
The honors and awards portion of the meeting ended with a 20-minute recess for refreshments before the board returned to regular business.
