The San Juan City Commission approved an ordinance to annex a 3.03-acre tract requested by Taysha Group LLC after a second public hearing on Sept. 23.
Monica Gomez, interim director of planning and zoning, told the commission staff recommended approval of the voluntary annexation petition and submitted a survey and petition packet for the tract north of Fall Acres Road along Stewart Road. "This is a second public hearing regarding the annexation petition received of a 3.03 acre tract," Gomez said.
During public comment a resident warned commissioners about existing infrastructure and flood risks, saying, "your decisions can make us or break us," and pressed the commission to confirm drainage capacity and elevation impacts before finalizing the annexation. The speaker raised specific worries about connecting new lines to older pipes and recurring flooding along nearby canals.
The mayor opened and closed the hearing, then a motion to approve the ordinance was made and seconded. The motion carried on a voice vote; commissioners answered in the affirmative and the record shows "motion carries." No roll-call vote tally was read into the record.
The action moves the property into San Juan city boundaries; staff noted the annexation petition and survey are in the agenda packet. The commission did not record additional conditions or a timetable for utility work in the meeting minutes.
