The Greenwood Police Merit Board on Nov. 13 approved several personnel and administrative items: conditional offers to three candidates, a permanent promotion for Lieutenant Burnett and payment of routine claims.
Chief James Eisen told the board he had three strong candidates who had cleared most pre-employment steps and were awaiting psychological evaluations. "I am only waiting on the psychological portion... we're looking at a hire date of... January 19," Eisen said; the board approved extending conditional offers to candidates 2, 3 and 4 contingent on final clearances.
The board also agreed to make Lieutenant Burnett’s promotion permanent following his one-year anniversary in rank. The chief requested the change and members approved it by voice vote.
Financial housekeeping included approval of claims for October and meeting/exec-session fees. The transcript lists $333 for attorney Linda Meyer’s services and $150 for commissioners' meeting fees; the board approved payment by voice vote.
Commissioners also praised the Greenwood Police Department Citizens Academy, an annual, once-a-week community program that runs from August through October and is designed to help residents learn about police work. A commissioner said attendees "thoroughly enjoyed" the hands-on, interactive sessions and encouraged commissioners to support and participate in the next round.
What happens next: Chief Eisen will extend conditional offers to the selected candidates pending psychological clearance and administrative checks, and will confirm the start dates and personnel record changes for Lieutenant Burnett.
