Summary
District leaders told the board that state report-card results show growth in ELA and math, higher freshman-on-track rates, larger AP participation and pass rates, and improved attendance; administrators credited staffing, MTSS supports and partnerships while noting science and other areas still need attention.
District leaders presented the latest Illinois state report-card results and highlighted measurable improvements across the district in 2025.
The superintendent and central office presenters said combined district ELA and math growth percentiles were reported near 89–90 percentile growth, with notable school-level improvements: Proviso East increased ELA proficiency from 6.1% (2023) to 12.8% (2025); Proviso West saw growth from about 5.9% to 21.3% in one reporting window; and Proviso Math and Science Academy (PMSA) moved from 40.7% to 65.4% in ELA and from 35.7% to 52% in math. Freshman-on-track rates rose districtwide (from 61% to 71%); Proviso East s freshman-on-track improved from 53% to about 65.6%; Proviso West rose to about 62.4%.
AP participation and passing rates increased: at Proviso East the number of students taking AP exams rose from 175 to 285 and pass rates improved; Proviso West increased students scoring a 3+ from 7.6% to 30.7%; PMSA saw pass rates increase from 32.7% (2023) to 59.6% (2025).
Presenters also described improved attendance and reduced chronic absenteeism and truancy across schools and noted teacher attendance improved (the share of teachers missing 10 days or fewer rose from about 36% in 2024 to 64% in 2025). The administration acknowledged science scores showed mixed results and said leadership would focus on that area going forward.
The superintendent invited the public to the district s State of the District presentation scheduled for Nov. 18, where the results and strategies behind the improvements will be discussed in detail.
Direct quotes from the meeting:
"Every small step forward presents hours of effort, persistence, and belief in what our students are capable of," a presenter said while summarizing the report card results.
"For ELA we showed a percentile growth of 89.94 and 89.8 in math," district leadership stated when reviewing aggregated growth metrics.
What happens next: the district will present these data in the Nov. 18 State of the District forum and continue implementing MTSS supports, community partnerships and staffing strategies to sustain gains and address areas of needed improvement.
