County staff ask for direction to restore public KPIs on Power BI dashboard

Sarah Masters asked the Kootenai County Board of Commissioners on Nov. 12 for direction on restoring and maintaining the county’s public Key Performance Indicator dashboards, which the county publishes via Microsoft Power BI.
"This is mostly just to find board direction on how to move forward with the KPIs that are currently on the website," Masters said, explaining that the dashboards were created several years ago by Nancy Pluff and that some now show blank screens or data only through a prior fiscal year. Masters offered options including training IT staff to manage the dashboards, contracting the work, or hiring the original author on a short-term basis.
Commissioners asked that staff survey departments to determine which KPIs they want to keep live and whether multiple staff should be trained so responsibility is not concentrated in one person. One commissioner noted the public value of having consistent dashboards available for all departments.
The board did not take a formal vote. Staff were asked to explore outreach to the original author and to return with cost and staffing options for a future business meeting.
