Sawyer County CJCC hears jail statistics, Operation Christmas plans and recovery‑court milestone

Presentence incarceration was reported at 19, sentenced at 18, and probation incarceration at 22, which staff said represents 37% of the jail population. The report also noted the population on the day the report was generated was 58 and that 71% of people had an unemployment status recorded at booking.
Justice Pointe representatives outlined program statistics and community activities. For October Justice Pointe reported 106 pretrial cases (two in referral status), 19 diversion cases (three in referral status, one unsuccessful), and seven participants in treatment court. The group described ongoing SNAP events (second and fourth Tuesdays), a new monthly bingo at the library, and a partnership with First Lutheran Church for December activities and volunteer navigator involvement.
A committee member described Operation Christmas, which aims to serve about 240 families, supplying nonperishable food, holiday hams, pies and gifts for children. The member estimated direct food costs this year at $16,000–$20,000 (exclusive of in‑kind donations) and said a volunteer call center will open the week of Thanksgiving to take referrals and coordinate donations.
Justice Pointe also announced the county’s first recovery court graduate, with a small ceremony at 2:00 p.m.; the graduate asked that newspaper coverage be withdrawn. The committee noted ongoing efforts by a homeless task force that lacks a permanent warming center but provides stopgap help like laundry tokens and coats and is seeking more volunteers and funding.
Because the meeting lacked a quorum, these reports were informational and no votes or formal approvals occurred; approval of the minutes and certain agenda items were deferred until a future meeting.
The committee adjourned after a short discussion about circulating notes from a recent 'tall cop' presentation.
