Council authorizes change order for Baker View fire repairs, adds estimated $12,345 for electrical work

Jennifer Burner, Mount Vernon’s parks and recreation director, briefed the council on a post‑fire restoration project at Baker View that uncovered additional electrical damage not included in the original contract.

Burner said the city selected Scott Wall Construction as the low bidder for the base restoration work. She told council the original Scott Wall contract as presented in the packet was $68,229 (without tax) and that Integrity Electric estimated the additional electrical work at $12,345. Staff recommended the council authorize the mayor to execute a change order to address the wiring discovered in the restroom ceiling.

Council member VanderStoop moved to authorize the mayor to execute the change order and Council member Molineux seconded the motion. Mayor pro tem called for the vote and announced the motion passed with ayes recorded.

Why it matters: The change order completes necessary repairs discovered during restoration of a city facility damaged by fire in July 2024. City staff provided the scope of work and supporting estimates in the meeting packet.
