Board approves VOCA and CFA grants to fund victims' services

The Josephine County Board of Commissioners voted to accept 2025–2026 VOCA and CFA noncompetitive grants that will fund victims' services in the district attorney’s office.
The district attorney explained that VOCA (Victims of Crime Act) funding is administered through the state Department of Justice and typically supports a majority of victim‑assistance staff. The DA said early concerns about federal grant conditions were resolved when the state DOJ signed an application that did not include problematic compliance requirements; as a result the grants will fund the office’s victim services as in prior years.
The DA provided a general fund match figure of $106,585.80 and said the grants combined total approximately $219,832 to support the victims assistance program. "It funds about 60% of the victims assistance staff," the DA said, describing services that range from misdemeanor victim notifications to support for victims of serious crimes.
Commissioners asked clarifying questions and then approved the grant acceptance by a unanimous roll-call vote, 3–0.
