Tulsa Hispanic Affairs commissioners form nominating committee, tee up annual report and outreach plan

The Greater Tulsa Area Hispanic Affairs Commission on Wednesday moved to organize the panel that will recommend officers for 2025 and confirmed plans to distribute outreach materials and promote community events.
Chair (presiding), who opened the meeting, named Angelica Reyna as chair of the nominating committee and proposed Jessica Lozano Alvarez and Carlos Perano as the two members to complete the panel. A motion to elect the two members was moved and seconded; commissioners approved the motion by voice vote, the chair said. The committee is scheduled to meet in December and present a slate at the January meeting.
During the chair report commissioners heard several outreach items. The commission was asked to identify volunteers for a community advisory board for a new Spanish-language mental-health research study called "Vida," led by Lucy Duran Camacho. The chair asked commissioners to email her or Lexi to be connected with Laureate University on that study.
The group also discussed a new-commissioner orientation set for Dec. 11 at 3:30 p.m. at City Hall and a reminder that the deadline to order name badges was the next day. Commissioners were invited to participate in two upcoming fire-safety events — a Nov. 17 propane gas certification session and a Dec. 8 conversation at Hannah Hall — and to take part in the Gathering Place’s Dec. 27 cultural event.
Commissioners reported the commission's outreach "playbook" is nearly finished in a Canva draft and ready for translation. "If anyone has time in the next couple weeks to support the document, the copy is ready to go," one commissioner said; the group discussed a plan to release a virtual version first and distribute printed copies to targeted partners once translated. The chair also announced a Bank of Oklahoma–sponsored Facebook giveaway of botanic garden tickets to increase visibility for the commission’s page.
Procedurally, commissioners approved the meeting minutes by voice vote before reconvening nominating committee business. The nominating committee will meet in December and bring a recommendation to the commission in January, per the timeline announced at the meeting.
The commission adjourned after setting these next steps.
