Wellington staff announces third senior transportation vehicle, ongoing programs and 30th-anniversary event; senior golf outing planned

Jennifer (village senior-services staff) said council approved a third vehicle to support transportation for seniors; staff expect the new vehicle to enter service in the later part of December. Staff also listed active offerings: recurring technology classes (limited to small class sizes with wait lists), congregate meals, frequent "lunch-and-learn" health presentations, music-bingo and other sponsor-supported activities. Staff emphasized that many program elements are covered by sponsor dollars rather than direct village funding.
Staff announced the Village of Wellington's 30th anniversary celebration set for Jan. 2 at the Wellington Amphitheater from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m., with family-friendly elements including an ice rink, carnival rides and fireworks. The advisory committee also heard a proposal from members to host a senior golf outing at Wellington National Golf Club on April 20; organizers said they do not plan to ask the village for funding and will work with sponsors and the club on registration and prizes. The golf event is expected to use a scramble format and the village will advertise tournament eligibility using its senior cutoff of age 55 for promotional materials.
